Am I Experiencing Anxiety?!(Check your symptoms)

Everyone experiences feelings of anxiety and panic at certain times. It's a natural response to stressful or dangerous situations. However, people can experience anxiety and panic attacks regularly, often for no apparent reason. Anxiety is a feeling of unease and it can range from mild to severe and it is accompanied by different unpleasant symptoms. The severity of symptoms varies from person to person.

Do you experience any of these?

  • Feeling and thinking that you are dying

  • Dizziness

  • Strong or irregular heartbeat

  • Fatigue

  • Feeling faint

  • Jelly legs or weak legs

  • Muscle aches and tension

  • Excessive sweating

  • Chest pain and chest squeezes

  • Unable to breathe normally

  • Trembling or shaking

  • A choking sensation

  • A frequent need to go to the toilet

  • Difficulty falling or staying asleep (insomnia)

  • Numbness in certain parts of the body (palms, tongue, etc.)

The most severe form of anxiety is a panic attack. The symptoms may cause you to struggle in everyday activities  (going to work, school, socialising with family and friends). You may start to avoid certain situations because you fear they'll trigger another panic attack. This can create a cycle of living "in fear of fear".

The number of attacks varies from person to person. Some people have attacks once or twice a month, while others have them several times a day. Although panic attacks are frightening, they're not dangerous. An attack won't cause you any physical harm.

* If you haven’t checked your physical health, it is highly recommended to do this first. This way, you will exclude possible physical conditions and be more confident that what you are experiencing is anxiety.

Why I am experiencing anxiety?

Experiencing anxiety is a signal (alarm) that unconsciously we are doing something wrong to ourselves and that something needs to be changed. Anxiety comes as a result of the negative thinking pattern that we are developing during our lives, again unconsciously. As a consequence, we start being too focused and worried about our future or we are resisting the reality that we are living.

Anxiety is a wake-up call telling us to change the old, harmful way of thinking and living. Anxiety comes into our lives to teach us how strong and beautiful we are and how to live our lives better.

How do I fight Anxiety and panic attacks?

You don’t! To fight something, you need to focus on that. And what we focus on, it grows!

You don’t want your fears to grow. Rather accept them and explain to your momentarily confused mind, that what you are experiencing is anxiety. That it’s harmless even though it might not feel that way and that many people are experiencing the same.

Start consciously changing your understanding of life and your reactions to different circumstances in your life. Learn how to answer wisely to the fearful voice within you. This way anxiety and panic attacks will naturally fade away.
